Datuk Md Arif Bin Mahmood
KPJ Healthcare Berhad
Datuk Md Arif is currently the Chairman of KPJ Healthcare Berhad and board director of Boustead Technology Sdn Bhd. He previously spent 37 years in PETRONAS and retired as the EVP & CEO of PETRONAS Downstream Business. He was a member of PETRONAS leadership team with primary responsibility of leading, strategizing, driving performance and growth of PETRONAS Global Downstream Business.
Prior to being the EVP & CEO Downstream, he was the Senior VP of Corporate Strategy & Risk where he was responsible for the PETRONAS Group Strategy, M & A, research, portfolio and risk management. He spent his first 10 formative years in various engineering and technical roles which provided the foundation for his various leadership role in PETRONAS. Over the period in PETRONAS, Datuk Md Arif was also chairman of several PETRONAS listed entities, subsidiaries, and JV companies.
Datuk Md Arif had initiated, led and steered several transformation efforts in PETRONAS. Among them are “Innovation Engine” - Working with AWS to institutionalise the ‘Working Backwards’ methodology and innovation culture, “PETRONAS360” - Enterprise Customers Management, “ArBiTra” - Trading Business Transformation, “Emb.arc” - HR Transformation, “DOVE” - De-silo and optimize oil business supply chain and “OER2” – empowerment to drive operational efficiency.
Datuk Md Arif launched SETEL in 2018 and set up the corporate venture unit that grew the SETEL family of businesses and other ventures.
In 2020, together with TCS, he established SEEd.Lab (www.seedlab.my) to nurture young talents in setting up Social Enterprises. To date 8 social enterprises have been launched.
Datuk Md Arif holds an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and graduated with First Class Honours in Electrical Engineering from Boston University. In 2019, he was awarded the New Silk Road CEO award for the refining category by Gulf Intelligence.
